Tips for Using Your Artificial Lawn Throughout Party Season
It’s safe to say that party season is one of the most exciting times of the year; however, as a synthetic lawn owner, your attention immediately turns to artificial grass care. After forking out for an artificial lawn, it’s understandable that you’ll want to make as much use of it as possible. Despite this, you need to ensure you know how to care for artificial grass; otherwise, you run the risk of damaging it. Of course, you need to take advantage of the mud-free surface you have during the autumn and winter months, but what does this mean for your artificial lawn care regime?
Water Concerns
When it comes to how to take care of artificial grass, one of the biggest concerns is flooding. This is especially true in the autumn, when showers are frequent and Halloween activities such as apple bobbing are taking place. Despite this, flooding needn’t be a concern for artificial grass owners, as a little water here and there will drain right through. The grass itself has drainage holes in the backing and we recommend it is laid onto a crushed granite base for a fully permeable system. With this being said, it’s not recommended to pour large volumes of water on the surface of your artificial lawn in one large go as it can disperse the kiln dried sand infill (such as emptying a large paddling pool).
Sparklers and Fireworks
Whether it’s for Halloween, Bonfire Night, or New Year’s Eve, sparklers and fireworks are always good fun. Despite this, one of our tips for artificial grass is to refrain from using sparklers and fireworks on, or in a close vicinity to, your lawn. This is because extreme heat will inevitably melt your grass fibres. When sand filled, artificial grass is self-extinguishing but the fibres will melt and be damaged from extreme heat.
Monitoring Food
How do you care for artificial grass in terms of food? Well, as with any lawn, you should ensure that any leftover food is cleared up once the party comes to a close. This is because any leftover food is a sure-fire way to entice unwanted visitors, such as foxes and rodents. Moreover, they often won’t just come the once, as they’ll remember your home as somewhere they were able to get some food. Furthermore, when hosting gatherings, spillages are sometimes inevitable. As a result, if something sticky is spilt, some warm soapy water will do the job.
Smoking
When hosting parties, it’s likely that some of your guests may be smokers; however, you should certainly request that no one smokes on your lawn. As with sparklers and fireworks, the ash from cigarettes can melt artificial grass fibres. Consequently, you may wish to create a designated smoking area in a concreted location to prevent damage from occurring.
Parking
Artificial grass is very strong and sturdy, meaning it can withstand a lot of force. Artificial lawns are able to withstand the weight of cars but we do not recommend parking or frequently driving over them. This is main because any braking or turning whilst on the grass is likely to damage it and cause ruckles. It will also damage the subbase as these as typically not designed to take the weight of heavy vehicles.
Festive Lights
How do you take care of artificial grass when it comes to decoration? Well, one of the most integral features of festive decorations is lights! Light-up figurines are popular garden decorations; however, you might think twice before placing these directly on your lawn. This is because, over time, bulbs can get very hot (if not LED, which can result in the burning or melting of your fibres. Therefore, we’d always suggest placing your light-up decorations elsewhere to minimise the risk of your lawn incurring damage.
Blankets of Snow
It has been a little while since we saw a white Christmas; however, our products are equipped to handle all manner of weather conditions, including snow. In the instance that your lawn is covered with a blanket of snow, we’d recommend letting it melt naturally. This is because de-icers and salts can inhibit the lawn’s drainage. Despite this, if you need to access your lawn amongst the snow, you might use a plastic shovel or soft bristled brush to push it away. Refrain from using metal tools, as these can damage your fibres. Also, be sure to take care during icy conditions, as your lawn may be slightly slippery!
